9K a year S SUMMARY Responsible for reception, office duties, eligibility determination, processing applicants and participants for certification/recertification, benefit issuance and quality assurance activities.
Also responsible for providing basic nutrition education/services to low-risk applicants and participants.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES Travel to multiple WIC sites.
Answer and direct phone calls.
Screen applicant inquiries for eligibility.
Manage appointment scheduling/rescheduling including reminder phone calls.
Greet and triage participants to appropriate staff.
Oversee flow of applicants/participants in waiting area.
Clerical duties as assigned/required.
Verification of identity, income, residency, participant category and data entry.
Educate and/or explain participant's rights and responsibilities, authorized signatures, WIC foods and using benefits at authorized vendors.
Referrals to Mass Health, SNAP, TAFDC as well as other health and human service programs.
Provide written notification for end of certification, missed follow-up appointment and/or ineligibility to receive WIC benefits.
Issuing and re-issuing food/formula prescriptions/benefits.
Security of WIC e-cards.
Receive training and attend appropriate in-services to attain competency and earn CEUs.
Provide nutrition care for low-risk participants at (re)certification and follow-up, including all aspects of:
anthropometric and hematological data collection, dietary and nutritional risk assessment, food package assignment, counseling and education, documentation and nutrition data entry, health and social service referrals and follow-up nutrition education.
Participate in quality assurance activities.
Assist in the planning and development of education materials and group nutrition education activities.
Complete and receive acceptable status on all components, activities and post-tests of the CPA I Training Program to obtain CPA I status.
Engage all clients by understanding and addressing their needs whether within or outside the scope of work Attend & participate in engagement team meetings as requested and communicate effectively with clients and staff in other areas Maintain confidentiality of client, employee and agency information in accordance with federal and state laws and funder requirements Ensure compliance with program/department, agency and/or funder requirements, as well as, SMOC policies & procedures Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS Fluency in English, Spanish AND Portuguese High School Diploma or GED Valid Driver's License Reliable, daily means of transportation to/from/between multiple WIC sites Availability to work during morning, afternoon, evening and Saturday hours One year office experience with good computer skills One year experience in a health care field, such as a counselor, educator, clinical assistant, outreach worker or home health aide Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills Well-organized, systematic, team-work approach to work Interest in nutrition or health care Sensitivity to the needs of participant population.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP Directly reports to Program Director Indirectly reports to Senior Nutritionist Direct reports of this position are N/A Indirect reports of this position are N/A PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to drive Ability to see and read a computer screen and paper documents Sitting for sustained periods of time WORKING CONDITIONS This position will travel to multiple locations within the state.
The WIC Program environment is a noisy office setting with daily, heavy client flow including many infants and toddlers.
As part of the responsibilities of this position, the WIC Program/Nutrition Assistant will have direct or incidental contact with clients served by SMOC in various programs funded or administered through the Executive Office of Health and Human Services.
A successful background check is required.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
