Responsibilities
The Investment Accounting Manager leads a group of diverse and experienced professionals through evolving investment accounting initiatives and reporting requirements. Responsible for managing the input of key internal and external stakeholder groups, providing timely financial reporting deliverables, and rendering guidance on the reporting implications of a rapidly developing investment portfolio. This role has high visibility to key members of Finance leadership and C-suite executives.Oversee reporting of all investment, pension and postretirement financial matters for the company (financial statements, budget to actual reporting, investment analysis, cash flow reporting, regulatory reporting, rating agency reporting, etc.). Ensure that the reporting meets all required controls and guidelines on a GAAP, statutory and IFRS basis.Manage the investment accounting function for the company's multi-national investment portfolios. Determine accounting system requirements for new GAAP or statutory requirements, new investment initiatives, such as derivatives, new asset classes and new entities/affiliates. Manage system changes/additions for the business function, including the selection and implementation of a new investment accounting system, and the coordination of the system with the Investment Department's front end systems. Develop and maintain procedures and controls over the investment accounting business unit to ensure compliance with all GAAP, statutory and management requirements.Coordinate with the investments department and other departments as necessary on all new initiatives, including new investment classes, derivatives or other changes to the investment portfolios or required investment reporting to facilitate the on-boarding and determine the appropriate procedures and controls. Work with other units, including foreign affiliates, to determine required reporting, procedures and controls necessary to provide any new financial reporting and analysis on investments, cash flow and the pension and postretirement plans.Work with external and internal auditors and regulatory agencies to support company accounting treatment, audits and regulatory filing requirements.Manage staff and plan work flow to ensure that all deadlines are met. Responsible for staff development, salary administration, performance review process, etc.Keep senior management informed of any significant issues/problems requiring their attention.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, accounting preferred; professional certification (CPA, CMA, CIA, CISA, etc.) or master's degree preferred.Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and practices to support financial soundness (U.S. GAAP, IFRS, STAT).Advanced knowledge of investments, investment accounting and benefit plan accounting, inclusive of derivatives.Proficiency with financial systems and software applications including investment accounting systems, investment systems, PeopleSoft systems, Microsoft office and various other reporting systems, portals and web-based applications.Excellent analytic and problem-solving skills to resolve unit specific issues independently.Strong interpersonal skills with excellent management and leadership abilities and the ability to motivate staff in a deadline driven environment.Excellent oral and written communication skills for both internal and external needs.We are considering Mid and Senior Level candidates for this role. The range is $148,000 to 212,600. These ranges are representative of the hiring salary for the role. The final salary offer will vary based on geographic location, individual education, skills, and experience.
